How to Keep Semi Permanent Hair Dye From Fading
Love the idea of a fun hair makeover without the commitment of permanent color? Then semi-permanent hair dye is a dream come true; you get the chance to play with an exciting new look, but without long-term obligation to a specific color.
Semi-permanent hair dye lasts approximately 4-6 weeks. If you fall in love with a color during that time, you can continue to add the same shade in your hair for touch-ups. However, if you decide you're not in love with your color, you also have the freedom to fade it out and try something new!
Whether you've just always wondered how you would look as a bold red-head or you love keeping up with current color trends, semi-permanent hair dye is the revolutionary hair color movement perfect for customizing self-expression.

Here are some of the most common questions we get about semi-permanent hair dye, answered!
What is semi-permanent hair dye?
Semi-permanent hair dye is a dye that coats the surface of the hair shaft, rather than dyeing the inner cuticle of the hair and fundamentally changing the color of the hair. This creates an easy-on, easy-off solution that can be mixed to create various custom colors and shades. This means that it's great for changing out your color whenever you get the itch to try something new!
Benefits of Good Dye Young Semi-Perm Dyes:

How long does semi-permanent hair dye last?
Most semi-permanent dyes will last between 4-6 weeks, while certain pigments, like blues and greens, may last even longer (this is due to their molecular size and other fun science stuff!). The color will start to fade little by little with each wash, but the beautiful fade out process is all part of the fun!

Not ready to let go of that beautiful, vibrant hair just yet? We've got you covered! We suggest washing your hair sparsely and in cool/cold water. When you do wash, be sure to use a color protecting shampoo and conditioner if you don't already. You can also create a color depositing hair mask at home by adding a drop of dye to your conditioner and letting it sit on your hair for about 10 minutes once a week! Finally, be sure to use a color protecting primer after washing and before heat styling to protect your hair from heat damage and UV rays that can also fade your color.

What is the difference between permanent and semi-permanent hair dye?
Permanent and semi-permanent hair dye vary in several aspects. One difference is chemical composition. In addition to being vegan and Leaping Bunny cruelty free certified, our semi-permanent dyes are peroxide and ammonia free so they won't damage your hair. As previously mentioned, semi-permanent hair dye, unlike other dyes, does not fundamentally change the color of your hair. Instead, it simply coats the surface of the hair shaft. This creates an easy-on, easy-off solution that produces only short-term and reversible effects.

Is semi-permanent hair dye damaging to hair?
No! Because it does not contain harsh or permanent chemicals, our semi-permanent hair dye is not damaging to your hair. In fact, our semi-perm dyes include Sunflower Extract and other essential oils and they're rich in Vitamins A, C, and E to condition hair while dyeing. This also makes it safe to use on hair that has been professionally relaxed or permed.
Will my hair go back to normal after using semi-permanent hair dye ?
Because semi-permanent dye does not fundamentally change the color or texture of your hair, you can certainly expect your hair color to revert back to its original state after using semi-permanent dye. As with any kind of hair dye, you'll notice that the color fades gradually before vanishing completely.
Will the color in semi-permanent hair dye wash out completely?
Yes! Semi-permanent dye does eventually wash out completely. That's because it does not bind permanently to the hair strands. If you like your new hair color and want to prevent it from fading, it's a good idea to apply a touch-up color every few weeks. If you want a new color or want to restore your original hair color, expect to see a complete color reversal within about two months or less for most colors.
Is all semi-permanent hair dye bright?
One of the best things about semi-permanent hair dye is the creative freedom you have to play with it. Our colors are vibrant, but you can determine just how bright you want to be. You can go big and bold by mixing colors for more vibrant looks. Want more of a faded hue? Simply add Fader to your favorite GDY dye to create more pastel shades. Looking for a dark and dramatic change? Check out our Darker Daze line or add a few drops of None More Black to your favorite GDY dye! If you're new to dyeing your hair and you want to test the waters before diving all the way in, we suggest adding a few drops of your favorite GDY color to RINSE to create a color depositing hair mask at home! Apply the mask to damp or dry hair, leave it on for about 10 minutes (longer for more vibrant color), and then rinse with cool water. You'll get a fun tint of color that should wash out completely in a week or so. The possibilities are endless and you can customize GDY colors to create a truly unique look just as individualistic as you are.
Is semi-permanent hair dye bad for hair?
Semi-permanent hair dye is not bad for hair. In contrast, it can add shine and vivacity to otherwise dull, listless, and over-styled hair. It washes out quickly and easily due to the fact that it is free of harsh chemicals. Peroxide and ammonia are the most common chemicals in hair dye that cause the most damage in hair. Since our products don't use these, your hair stays healthy!
What is the best semi-permanent hair dye?
There are many options available for a semi-permanent hair dye. We believe the best dyes are ones that improve the health of your hair while also changing the color. We include Sunflower Extract and other essential oils, rich in Vitamins A, C, and E to condition hair while coloring.
"I have really sensitive skin and hair, so I was bracing for my scalp to burn terribly. It actually helped MOISTURIZE and CONDITION! My hair was rejuvenated after dyeing it!"
